Exterior Circle > WeMoon Spirit Gardens What are the Spirit Gardens for? It is part of the WeMoon philosophy that women are creatures inextricably tied to the natural world; as a manifestation of that connection, we garden. We pay attention to the soil and the creatures that live there. We cultivate plants and create beautiful spaces where we can be in harmony among other living things. In doing so, we are working with the earth, and learning about ourselves. Who works in the garden? Just a handful of women work in the garden on a regular basis. One or two of them came with several years of gardening experience, but the others had very little knowledge of growing things beforehand. Women with all levels of experience pop in when they can -- sometimes once a month, sometimes once and then not again for many months. Any woman is welcome to come and garden in whatever capacity she is willing and able.
What do I need to bring if I want to come garden? We have tools and supplies at WeMoon, so you don't have to bring anything. Some women have trowels that they like to use. Many women come with hats to shade the sun. And we are always looking to diversify and add to the garden. Please bring any plant you'd like to see growing there. I have a garden at home; why would I work in the Spirit Gardens? The most basic premise of WeMoon and the Spirit Gardens is that women creating community are creating something greater than themselves since we learn and grow from each other. Women who have gardening experience have much knowledge to impart, and in turn, may learn to see the earth in a new way from one who is putting her hands in it for the first time. Also, the Spirit Gardens exist to give an opportunity for all the women of WeMoon Spirit to experience a sacred space made more so by the energies and intentions of those who create it. This is a very different goal than that which impels one to make a garden at home -- the idea is to share; share time, energy, beauty, harvest, and ultimately, the experience of connection with the natural world.
When can I come to the Spirit Gardens? You can come to the garden to sit, smell, taste, walk, and enjoy at any time. Come a few minutes early to a WeMoon class so you have a chance to visit, walk around during the intermission of a workshop, or come by during your lunch hour to sit with the plants and insects. If you want to come work in the garden, come by first during open gardening time, usually on Saturday mornings. After becoming familiar with the garden, you can come by at other times to weed, prune, harvest, plant, or participate in other ways.
